His annual fast food stuff awards, hosted via his Instagram account, pulls in cameos from famous people like Ike Barinholtz and Jay Baruchel. Vulture labeled him “the preeminent speedy-food stuff critic of 2018,” and the Wrap called him “the Gordon Ramsay of quick food.”

Oakley is also a Portlander, 1 who can usually be spotted grabbing a burger at Fuller’s, a hen parm at Summit Shack, or a po’boy from Matt & Memere’s. We requested him for his most loved carts, dining establishments, and treats across Portland discover his beloved Portland haunts under.

Best burger: “I’m heading to say Strike The Place. It depends on no matter if I want a burger with a bunch of things on it. If I don’t, it is Strike the Place, but when I want a burger with a bunch of stuff on it, it’s Fuller’s Burger Shack. But there are a ton I love: Tough Draft, Farmer and the Beast. I do not desire to have a smash burger I really don’t automatically care.”

Most effective fry: “I really don’t know if I’m experienced to reply that. I really don’t seriously like fries that substantially I did a podcast very last week where I tried out all the quick food stuff fries, and I’d alternatively have a next burger. I feel I’d like to have Jojo’s jojos for a potato side dish.”

Most effective Portland-based mostly fast food items chain: “Is it a chain if it has two spots? If so, Jojo would be it, given that it’s opening a new area. Super Deluxe, Killer Burger, Big’s Hen has two destinations.”

Ideal fried chicken sandwich: “It’s Jojo’s, but it is tied with Basilisk’s. Right after that, Big’s Rooster. The chicken sandwich at Yonder, I did enjoy it when I had it last 12 months. But I really don’t purchase chicken sandwiches, usually. I would generally rather have a burger than a chicken sandwich.”

Most loved fried foods in Portland that is not chicken or a fry: “There are so several fried meals I love. I like the fried shrimp po’boy at Avenue St. Charles in the Rose Biggi meals cart pod in Beaverton. I appreciate the fried eco-friendly tomato po’boy at Matt & Memere’s. The fried cod at Batterfish, totally. The other factor that sticks in my brain are the fried pickles at Summit Shack. Initial of all, the pickles — some pickles that are fried are way too bitter, way too dill, but this dude would make his pickles himself. They have this complete perfect sum of coating.”

Beloved pizza: “I’ve gotta divide it into different classes. My favourite New York is Pizza Jerk. My beloved (thick crust) is Pop Pizza. My favourite Chicago (tavern) model… I love Jerry’s, but Bridge Metropolis has been all over for yrs and is just as excellent. It’s tough to get one, but I think that they are as very good as (Jerry’s), and his are very good.”

Favourite barbecue: “It’s intriguing, the only kind of barbecue I seriously like is North Carolina pulled pork sandwiches. There aren’t that many sites that do Carolina-type the way I like it. Just one of the sites that does it is Bark Metropolis, and they have my favored pulled pork sandwich. The guy who runs Apizza Scholls has been generating pulled pork sandwiches, he gave me 1 very last 7 days, and it was a single of the greatest I have had in decades. I really do not know if he’ll begin offering them.”

Favorite tacos: “I’ve been going to Taqueria Los Puñales, I assume the rooster tinga there is my preferred. Individuals are my most loved tacos, at minimum suitable now.”

Most loved sandwich: “There are a good deal of sandwiches I love — Jojo, the po’boys I pointed out. The hen sandwich club sandwich at Fuller’s, it is unquestionably my favourite matter there. It is an old-university diner sandwich, but there’s this other layer with chicken salad, it is definitely divine.”

Best ice cream: “I know it’s the cliche solution, but Salt & Straw. The pear and blue cheese sounded like a freak exhibit to me, but I definitely like it.”

Favorite mid-7 days lunch: “My most loved position to go right now is (the food items cart pod) Main PDX, which is my beloved new place. The carts I like most are Summit Shack and Papi Sal’s, but the selection of carts there is so excellent, I can under no circumstances make up my thoughts. I’m also going to go to that Moore Food & Organization thing much more typically, it is so fantastic: 40 feet from the Atlas Pizza on Division, there’s this meals cart there that just moved in with great cheesesteaks, and the house they established up in this position is unquestionably stunning. I have not absent there various situations, but it’s heading to come to be my lunchtime hangout. Even with no press, it is pretty packed. And the location is gorgeous.”

Beloved celebration cafe: “I haven’t been to any indoor, sit-down dining places in so prolonged, but when I did go, I’d go to Laurelhurst Sector. I do not go to a great deal of extravagant sit down dining establishments, but when I’d go, that was it. It is a lovely house, it’s possibly my favorite restaurant of the fancier caliber.”

Most loved food items cart: Skidbladnir will get zero notice, and it’s excellent. I had the very best meal I have experienced in a prolonged time there. I had two factors: I experienced a marinated lamb sandwich, it was certainly wonderful, and the Norwegian meatballs there, I reminisce about individuals. Their food is unquestionably cafe good quality, and an outstanding restaurant at that.”
