Leeds restaurant run by Masterchef star named best fine dining in England

Masterchef finalist Jonathan ‘Jono’ Hawthorne’s Leeds restaurant has been judged the best in England.
Chef Jono at V&V , New Briggate, scooped Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year at the Food Awards England 2022, this week. Jono, who trained at top restaurants in Denmark and Australia, and Ilkley’s famous Box Tree, made it to the finals of Masterchef: The Professionals in 2020 although he didn’t win.
After Masterchef, the Yorkshireman reopened Vice and Virtue under his own name serving inventive, international fusion dishes, including octopus with lychee, peanut and coriander. The restaurant express its delight at the win yesterday.

Chef Jono at V&V posted on its Facebook: “Bringing it home for Leeds last night. Thank you to everyone that has supported us our guests, our supporters and of course, our team.
“We are truly humbled and proud of everything we have accomplished. Congratulations to all the winners last night.”
According to the Food Awards themselves, the awards “recognise the success of local professionals and establishments that continue delivering great flavours and experiences to their customers.”

- Café/Bistro of the Year Yorkshire: Philomena Foggs (Holmfirth)
- Restaurant of the Year Yorkshire: The Box Tree Restaurant (Ilkley)
- Best Mexican Establishment North: Amigos Mexican Kitchen (Sheffield)
- Best Seafood Establishment North: The Magpie Cafe (Whitby)
- Best World Cuisine North: Persian Cottage (Middlesbrough)
- Best World Cuisine Overall Winner: Persian Cottage (Middlesbrough)
