It is important to provide your toddlers with wholesome nutritious foods to meet their daily needs. It is a good idea to introduce your toddler to a variety of home-made healthy foods. It is important to keep in mind that each child is unique and we must follow their cue when feeding. Experts’ advice that the breakfast must be eaten within 1-2 hours of waking up as it is the first main meal of the day and helps in breaking fast, as the name suggests.. Here are a few breakfast recipes that are easy to make and are healthy too:
Sooji and oats Vegetable Chilla
Ingredients: Sooji, rolled oats, onion, carrot, coriander leaves, salt, turmeric, butter, buttermilk and tomato ketchup.
Preparation time: 20 to 25 minutes
Method: Roast sooji and oats well and keep aside. Wash and clean veggies. Chop all the veggies finely. In a mixing bowl, mix sooji, oats, veggies and buttermilk. Mix it well and prepare a dosa consistency batter. Add salt and turmeric in it. Brush the pan with little butter. Pour half a ladle of batter into preheated pan. Cook well from both the sides. Use different cookie cutters to give fun shapes. Serve it with tomato ketchup on the side.
Sprout Veg Idli
Ingredients: Sprouted moong daal, peas, onion, carrot, capsicum, sooji, rice flour/besan, coriander leaves, salt, turmeric, curd, and butter
Preparation time 20 to 25 minutes
Method: Wash, clean and chop all veggies finely. Par boils the sprout and peas. Drain it and let it cool down. Coarsely grind sprout and peas in a mixer. Mix all veggies, sprout &peas mix, one spoon besan, one spoon sooji, and curd. Mix well and prepare balls shaped idli. Preheat the Idli maker and put these balls in it. Steam it for 10 to 12 minutes. Serve it with chutney or tomato ketchup.
Bread Pizza
Ingredients: Brown bread slices, pizza sauce, mayonnaise, onion, tomato, salt, cheese slices, butter and tomato ketchup.
Method: Cut the edges of the bread, wash and chop all veggies finely. Spread mayonnaise and pizza sauce evenly on bread. Put a handful of chopped veggies and cover with a cheese slice. Brush the preheated pan with butter; put these bread slices on it. Toast it for a couple of minutes. Serve it with tomato ketchup on the side. Use different cookie cutters to give fun shapes.
Food that we offer to our kids should please their eyes, try to make it colorful. Toddlers are known to be picky and fussy eaters.
